The Harveys have a fairly busy home. In addition to day-to-day family meals and activities they enjoy entertaining at home. So, the new kitchen had to be practical for everyday family activities while also making a design statement with a little bit of a ‘wow’ factor.

The existing lounge next to the kitchen includes wooden features. So, the clients wanted the new kitchen to include some wood-effect surfaces too.

The family wanted key features to include a large, central island serving as the main work station, with a hob and sink.  They also wanted tall larder storage units fitted along one wall to provide the extra storage space they needed.

Visually, they also wanted the new kitchen design to feature some contrasting colours and surfaces, making it stand-out and be a different to kitchens based on single colours.

The design

We used Coco bolo wood-effect boards and complementary wooden plinths to mirror the wood used in the lounge area next to the kitchen. The worksurfaces are quartz and the cabinets are from the Porter handle-less range in a light gloss décor. Cool grey floor tiling and quartz splashbacks provide contrast to the white cabinet doors and light brown wood-effect surfaces.

There is a range of storage drawers and cupboards, and a tall bank of units on the oven side of the kitchen. The washer, drier and gas boiler are all integrated behind cabinet doors.

The main island has a NEFF hob, Blanco sink and Quooker boiling water tap, doing away with the need for a kettle, and a pop-up power socket including a USB socket.

Other appliances and accessories include a NEFF oven, NEFF microwave, Kessebohmer pull-out larders and an American-style fridge-freezer.

A wall unit near the French door looking out to the garden was designed at an angle to allow maximum light into the kitchen and soften some of the edges. There is also a table for ornaments, adding another living room element into the kitchen space.

Everything went to plan. The fitter carried out preparatory work, floor-tiling and plastering.

When complete, the customers were delighted with the finished kitchen.

With its glossy surfaces, light really bounces around the kitchen. It is brighter, stylish and much more efficient now with storage, workspaces and appliance configuration.

It really enhances the property, the family’s daily life and their entertaining at home.
